FOGS Colts Round 13 Review and Gallery

"Redcliffe maintained their dominant recent form; defeating the ladder leading Norths Devils 44-10 in Round 13 of the FOGS Colts Challenge last Sunday afternoon.

However, the Devils started the game strongly, with winger Lachlan Gallegos scoring in the opening moments of play, capitalising on strong hits produced by the forward pack."

Phins Push Ahead with Win v Devils

"The Redcliffe Dolphins continued their strong run into the finals, defeating Norths Devils 44-24 on yesterday (Sunday) afternoon at Bishop Park during the Harvey Norman Women in League round.

It took five minutes for the Phins to take the lead, with prop Nick Slyney getting his side off to a good start early."

Finals are nearing in the Intrust Super Cup and the Redcliffe Dolphins are building towards another grand final. Last Sunday's victory against the Norths Devils further cements their chances to take the cup and shows the rest of the teams that they mean business.

Colts Gallery and Wrap: Jets v Devils

"The Norths Devils continued their stellar run throughout the 2017 season, defeating the Ipswich Jets 42-20 last Saturday in the FOGS Colts Challenge.

Ipswich got an early lead through Junior Vaitai who crossed the line in just the second minute of play. It wasn’t long however until the Devils bounced back, with fullback Justin Cridland scoring the away sides first points of the afternoon."

Phins defend their way to win v PNG

"The Redcliffe Dolphins continued their dominant run into the finals, defeating the competition ladder leaders the PNG Hunters 28-12 at Dolphin Oval on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides came out strongly in the first few minutes of the game, with a big hit put on Dolphins captain Sam Anderson just seconds into the game setting a combative tone for the rest of game."

The Intrust Super Cup is nearing closer to the finals and with a lot on the line, a top four clash was certainly going to provide a lot of entertainment. Both sides came out with something to prove but it was the class of the Redcliffe defence that saw them get the win.

The Untold Truth of Sports Supplements

This was a news piece that I created for a university assessment to cover the unfolding issue of sports supplements within Australia. For this assignment, we were required to create a piece that could be put into a current news coverage, using skills such as recording overlay, recording a piece to camera, and writing and recording our own script for the story. As such, I decided to look into an ongoing issue within the sporting supplements industry, where local manufactures are subjected to harsher laws and regulations than companies that manufacture internationally. For this piece, I received 33 out of 35, which equates to a high distinction.

A Destructive Paradise

This piece was created for a multimedia subject at university, asking us to create a radio piece that is newsworthy and current to our media today. I choose to do a story covering the recent tropical cyclone Debbie that hit the Whitsunday region in late March. Rather than looking at the system that effected the Brisbane region, I was able to speak with holiday 'goers' of Hamilton Island who experienced the cyclone and its affects first hand. Kurt and Sofie Moore, and Anne-Marie Lyell provide detailed accounts of the damaging winds, torrential rain and the destruction that was left following Debbie's wrath. For this assignment, I received 32/35, which equates to a 6/7

The Winning Formula

This video piece was produced for a multimedia assignment which tests my abilities to create an engaging story through images and sound. For this specific piece, I chose to look at the recent AFL Womens tournament, specifically at the Brisbane Lions defender, Leah Kaslar, who provided great insight and knowledge of the game and where she hopes the league will go. While the Lions did not go on to win the grand final, the work that was done by all those involved in the Womens league have a lot to look forward to in the coming years. For this assignment, I received a 6 out of 7.

The Dark Side of Social Media

This was a story I wrote during my first year of university. The guidelines for our investigation were to cover human tragedy and its impact on everyday life.  I chose to uncover the impact that social media has on teenagers, therefore potentially leading to depression.  For this piece of assessment, I received a credit (5 out of 7).

The Sports Loving 'Aussie'

To understand the necessary balance between culture and communication, I was required to write a reflective essay for this subject on my culture and what has shaped me throughout my life. As an Australian, a significant cultural impact on my life has been sport, and thus I chose to delve into how sport is communicated through our nation. For this, I received a high distinction.

Recognising the Indigenous Round

This was one of the first assignments that I did as a university student studying journalism. We were required to cover an event that was occurring in our local community, for which I chose to look at the inaugural Double-Header NRL match, which coincided with the Indigenous Round. I was fortunate enough to be able to interview former Brisbane Broncos captain, Justin Hodges and learn how he felt about the significance of Indigenous players within the game. For this assignment, I received a 6 out of 7.
