Cyclone Debbie ravaged the North Queensland coast at the end of March 2017, leaving thousands of people without homes, food, water, and power for days. A significant contributor to Debbie's damage was its making landfall in the Whitsunday Islands, most notably Hamilton Island and the surrounding regions. Tourists were moved from their accomodation to bunkers, where most people had never experienced anything to the same extent.
